Accessible Signage: The impact of Braille and tactile signage in modern environments.

In the design of public and corporate spaces, we often focus on the visual: powerful colors, elegant typography, and noble materials. However, a truly intelligent building is one that can "speak" to all its users, regardless of their abilities.

Accessible signage is no longer just a boring plaque next to the door; it has become a key piece of modern Wayfinding.

1. Much more than dots: Technical regulations

It's not enough to just add raised dots. Effective Braille signage requires compliance with strict regulations (such as UNE 170002) that dictate character height, spacing, and, above all, color contrast.

  • The Impronta detail: We use high-contrast materials to also help people with residual vision, ensuring the sign is useful for the greatest number of people possible.

2. Integrated tactile design

The biggest challenge for an architect is integrating accessibility into interior design. At Impronta, we work with supports ranging from high-quality methacrylate to aluminum composite, allowing tactile plaques to feel like a natural extension of the building.

  • Solutions: Haptic plans (tactile maps) at main entrances and floor directories with high relief.

3. Durability and Resistance

Unlike a standard vinyl, a tactile sign is designed to be touched constantly. This requires manufacturing processes where the relief does not peel off or wear out with use or intensive cleaning.

  • Solutions: Direct printing with high-density UV curing varnishes that create a solid and permanent relief.

Let's build spaces for everyone. At Impronta, we combine the technical rigor of accessibility regulations with our passion for impeccable design. If you are planning a public building or renovating your headquarters, we can advise you.
